What are you?

Happy Halloween!

I'm all candied out, so I won't be Trick or Treating tonight (oh, and I'm old) but I'm debating on going to a costume contest at my favorite Oxford bar.

I already dressed up once, but my costume isn't too hard to throw together again. Well, except for the hair.

After donning my costume for the Young Professionals party Saturday night, I came to the conclusion that not enough "young professionals" watch Futurama. One girl said to me, "What are you? Monsters, Inc.?"

Mike from Monsters, Inc

Leela from Futurama

Which one would you guess?

I'll just add it to my obscure pop culture costumes that only the cool kids get. The list is getting quite long. And as I was typing that last sentence, I thought of what to add to it next year. I might start working on that costume now.

Have you celebrated Halloween yet? What did you dress up as?

Halloween Ramblings

The University daycare kids come around to all the offices to Trick or Treat for Halloween. It was supposed to be today, so I dressed up as "girl who actually wears makeup to work". But it got moved to tomorrow. There's no way I'm gonna wear makeup two days in a row, so tomorrow I'll just be "scary looking girl". That's more fun anyway, right?

It's dreary outside and I'm kinda loving it. Perfect Halloween weather. I made my costume last night. I was going to do this costume last year but I never got around to it, so I was Daria instead. It was kinda awesome.

I think this year's costume is even more awesome. I just went to Wal Mart (and Home Depot), and picked up a few things. I cut, pasted, taped, and spray painted and then I was done. I love making my own costumes. Although I am disappointed that I didn't have time to make the costume I really wanted this year. Slutty Pumpkin. (Any HIMYM fans out there? I was gonna rock that costume. And drink Kahlua and Root Beer all night.)

I like when people are creative and make their own costumes (like this or this) as opposed to buying Slutty Tinkerbell from some random online store.

I use Slutty Tinkerbell as my example because when I was in college, I got invited to a Halloween date party. My date and I were going to be Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. I was in charge of getting the costumes. I ordered my Tinkerbell costume from some random online website. When I got it...I realized I never looked at the "back view". It was totally assless! So instead, we were a doctor and a crazy patient. I was in a straight jacket. He wore my sister's scrubs. (What? I like skinny guys.)

Here's a little treat from the Ghost of Halloween Past (from 20 years ago). Yes I am wearing a garbage bag. And yes I'm am the cutest (non-slutty) pumpkin EVER.

Happy Halloween! What are you gonna be?

Want it Wednesday: Christmas Countdown Vol. 3

In order to lengthen my Christmas list for friends and family (and you?) and to save myself from getting 9 pairs of pearl earrings again this year, I am adding 3 things to my Christmas list each week. I still want everything from Week 1 but the necklace from Week 2 is sold out. Sad. Here are some more goodies for you (me). Oh, and there are now just SIXTY days until Christmas.

Double Trouble Cardigan
$32 from S + A (size M)

Cape Cod (Brewster Flats)
$49.95 from Dicks Cottons

Chinoiserie Pillow
$68 from Dwell Studio

I've added a Stitched + Adorned item every week. Basically, I want everything from there.

How is your Christmas shopping/list making coming along?

A few weeks ago, I met a girl at a party. We began a conversation about relationships (over beer pong). She had been in a serious relationship and is now single for the first time since high school. She asked me how I met guys when I was in college. So I told her the truth.

I saw a guy I liked and went for it. That's how I've always been. Even in high school. Freshman year, there was a new guy. I found out where his locker was and put a note in it. We dated for the next 3 years. In college it was a "Hey we should study together" Facebook message.

She (in a snarky voice, might I add) stated, "I don't chase guys. They chase me."

Well, first of all...why are you asking for advice? Shouldn't you be out running from some guy who's chasing you? (She wasn't even wearing running shoes. Psshh.) And...I wouldn't say I chased. I just kinda said, "Tag! You're it."

Okay so maybe one time I chased. But I just chased the guy away. All the way to another continent. So that's probably not the best move. (Trueish story.)

But I don't think there's anything wrong with playing tag and then being chased. There's no sense in waiting around in a tower for your Prince Charming. Just go tag him.

Or something like that.

Friday Favorites

I play favorites. If there is a group of things, I'm going to have a favorite. I have a favorite pair of jeans, a favorite piece of jewelry, a favorite book. I have a favorite friend (though I refuse to tell anyone who it is). I have a favorite restaurant, a favorite waiter, a favorite member of the How I Met Your Mother cast. Future Faye will probably have a favorite child. I always pick favorites. When was this most obvious? Boy bands. Don't tell me you didn't have a favorite (in every one).

Backstreet Boys
Hello A.J. (He grinded his way into my 8 year old heart.)

I wish I could take this one back. JC is a goob. I'm sorry Justin!

The one with the dreads. (I don't know their names.) Coming in with a very close second place is the guy in the grey tshirt who conveniently looks a lot like every guy I've ever dated. And kinda like Ben Affleck.

Yes, I went there. And I liked Chad. Or..."the shy one".

It was a tough call between him and the other cute one (sorry third guy) but he always reigned supreme.

Okay, I didn't have a favorite here. They all cheesed me out.

The one who says, "Uh check it check it out. Second verse girl." in When the Lights Go Out. How could he not be your favorite with a line like that?

Hanson (then)

Hanson (now)
Zac. It's still Zac.

Who were your favorites?

*Update! I forgot 98 Degrees. Oops. My favorite was the one that wasn't a Lachey and didn't have yellow hair. Forgot his name. But yeah, it was him.

Want it Wednesday: Christmas Countdown Vol. 2

Another week is gone and now there are only 67 days until Christmas! I had to scramble to come up with 3 more things to add to my list, but I got them.

Do you remember what I wanted last week? Well, here's more.

Only You Necklace
$19.99 from S + A

Album Frames*
2 for $20 from Urban Outfitters (I need 4-12)

Tano Bag
$180ish from Private Gallery

*I wanted white album frames for the decor above my bed...but now they only have black. Bummer.

So...what are you gettin' me?

Tuesday Tunes - 21

In honor of my last single ex boyfriend tying the knot with the girl he dated immediately after me (happens every time), I finally decided to listen to Adele's 21 album. Ya know, the one where she whines about her ex boyfriend moving on for the entire album?

And I'll admit...I still hate Adele. I'm just not a fan of her voice. She sounds like a way less talented, classier but whinier, slightly more alive Amy Winehouse.

I wonder if this guy broke up with her because she was too emotional? Probably. Maybe that's why I can't relate? I was the dumper, not the dumpee. And I don't want someone like him. I don't even think I'm ready to have someone at all. It's just weird to see your ex boyfriends marry off. All girls want all of their ex boyfriends to still be in love with them. It's how we're wired. Especially Adele.

So, I listened to the entire 21 album. And these are my thoughts.

Rolling in the Deep doesn't even count because it's super played out.

I almost kinda like Turning Tables and Set Fire to the Rain. They have good beats.

I didn't hate but didn't necessarily like One and Only.

I couldn't even get through Rumour Has It, Don't You Remember?, He Won't Go, Take it All, and I'll be Waiting. Seriously, I'll be Waiting is the most pathetic song I've ever heard.

311 does the best cover of Lovesong and that's the only one I'll be listening to.

Someone Like You. Now, that's a good song. I don't agree with it and I don't relate to it, but I like to sing along with it. Except, not the Adele version. Just the cover by Charlie Puth and Emily Luther.

What are your thoughts on Adele? As far as I'm aware, I'm the only one who doesn't worship her. Sorry.

Friday Feelings

Today, I'm gonna do something a little different. I don't usually talk about feelings. I'm not really a feelings person. But I'm ready to give it a try.

Today, I feel...

I feel...

I feel like shit. I have a hangover and I have a non hangover headache on top of my hangover headache.

My sister always asks me why I drink so much at concerts. My response is always, "why don't you?"

Now I know why she doesn't.

Ingram Hill came to Oxford last night. You know I love me some Ingram Phil Hill. So of course we were there.

Morg, Rach, and I ate dinner at the venue (Proud Larry's) before the show to ensure we got prime seating at the bar. I was all, "I don't want to stand on the front row. Been there, done that, got their phone numbers." But we didn't get prime seating at the bar, so we stood in the front row. Eh, why not?

Ingram Hill always puts on a good show and again, they didn't disappoint. If you don't love Ingram Hill then you've clearly never listened to them and you need to go check them out. I've mentioned them a couple of times

Favorite fans
Try not to confuse us with Kim, Khloe, and Kourt. (big ass, tall, short)

After dinner, with Phil
After dinner and a long conversation about books (where I learned that everyone thinks The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starts off slowly, Phil has met Scott Weiland, we all love The Great Gatsby, and Rachel is super obsessed with Harry Potter) it was time for the show. A few hours and a few (four) vodka drinks later, I was lying on my back. Seriously. I fall a lot, you guys know this. Usually it's a forward fall to my knees. Not this time. It was like I slipped on a banana peel.

I looked exactly like that except the drink I was spilling was vodka water. And there was no banana peel. I must have slipped on my dignity because I dropped it somewhere. Seriously though, I had remarked early in the night that the bottom of my shoes were slippery. It was bound to happen. Luckily, nobody saw. Or that's what I'm telling myself.

After the show, with Zach
Where am I looking? I can only presume I'm looking for my dignity. Great show, guys.

1 Car, 2 Car a.k.a. My Sister Hated Me

My car has been in the shop for a week, so my sister and I have been sharing one car...even though we need to be on opposite sides of town and have different schedules.

This is high school all over again.

Nope, I didn't have a car. Yes, my sister did. And yes, we went to different high schools. Why? Because she was a bitch. Or because I was a bitch. Either way, there was a lot of bitching.

I was a bit of an angsty teenager (hence the perfect Nirvana lyric as my tagline). I kinda hated my mother and sister. But they hated me back and now we all love each other so that makes it okay, right?

Anyway. Separate schools. My sister hated me so much that she moved to a different high school. She claims it was because she couldn't go anywhere without hearing, "Hey M, where's your little sister?" Whatever, I was hot...and a cheerleader.

Her move just helped my cause and worsened her problem. My pool of guys got larger and she continued to hear, "where's your sister?" everywhere. I loved it.

Not because it upset her, but because (honestly) high school was my prime. I had to live it up.

Actually, my prime lasted into sophomore year of college.

But(t) that's not the point.

The point is that my sister moved high schools to get away from me.

No wait, the point is...I should get my car back today. Oh, and I really need to stick with P90X this time around.

Want it Wednesday: Christmas Countdown

Well, kids. There are only 74 days until Christmas. So I guess I better get started on my list! I never ask for much, so I always get a lot of the same thing.

Typewriter Initial Watch
$28 from Urban Outfitters

Romance Found dress
$36 from S + A (size M)

Paige Tall Riding boots
$348 from Frye (in grey, size 6)

Annnd that's all I got. Maybe if I can come up with 3 items every Wednesday to add to my list, I'll actually give my gift givers enough choices. (33 choices, to be exact.)

What's on your list this year?

Dream Lessons

I dream every night. I remember my dreams every morning. I'm kind of like a dream Wizard. I'm also a dream psychic because each time one of my ex boyfriends got engaged (and they all did) I had the same dream about them the night prior.

The other night, I had this dream:

I wake up at my mother's house. I shower. It is 5 a.m. I'm up early because I'm getting married that day1. I notice one of our wedding invitations on the kitchen table. It says the wedding is at 5:45 a.m. WHAT? I call my groom freaking out.

"Do you realize all our guests are expecting a 5:45 a.m. wedding? In 45 minutes? The invitation was supposed to say PM2 but it says AM! What are we going to do?"

"We're going to get married, that's what we're gonna do. I don't care what time it is, I just want to marry you3."

"But I can't be ready in 45 minutes4. We need to call everyone and tell them the invitations were wrong."

"Let's just get married. It will be perfect, I promise5."

"I have to go. Call you back."

I call Lindsay.

"Lindsay. My invitations sent out saying the wedding is at 5:45 a.m. instead of p.m. What am I going to do?"

"Yeah? We're waiting on you! We're all ready."

"No! It's supposed to be PM! I can't get married in 456 minutes. I have to call everyone and tell them it's tonight."

"Faye, it's too late. Plus, I'm leaving town at 2 so if you push it back, I can't be in it7."

The stress. The confusion. I call off the entire wedding and feel immediately relieved.

Rachel and Lindsay show up at my door with a copy of the real invitation. The one that says the wedding is at 5:458 p.m. They had orchestrated the obstacle as a test to see if I really wanted to marry this guy because they didn't think I did.

1. I don't know why I'm at my mother's house cause I'm sure as hell not getting married in my hometown.
2. Who gets married at 5:45 p.m.?
3. Too sweet.
4. I could totally get ready in 45 minutes.
5. Seriously, too sweet.
6. By this time, I'm sure it's more like 25 minutes.
7. Bitch.
8. Seriously, who gets married at 5:45 p.m.?

Key things to pick up from this dream:

When you're ready to be with someone/get married, it shouldn't matter when or where.

Make sure your friends are smart enough to try to stop your wedding sooner than the day of if they are having doubts.

I think I broke mystery groom's heart. Sorry, dude.

I Need This Feeling

Well said, Colin. I want to feel like this. What book shall I pick up this afternoon?

What books have made you feel this way?

Where's Arnie?

On the news this morning (celebrity news, that is) it was confirmed that Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively have split. I don't know about you, but I'm relieved. I've had a thing for Leo since the days of What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

Okay, so maybe I didn't actually see him as a heart throb until The Quick and the Dead, Romeo + Juliet, and, of course, Titanic.

Either way, it was early. And I've been hooked ever since. Not only is he extremely attractive, but he's an amazing actor. I could go on and on about my favorite movies of his, but it would be quicker to just tell you to visit his IMDb page.

Now, we all know that Ben Affleck is my #1 absolute dream guy celebrity crush. But since his wife is pregnant with their third child, I think I have a better chance with ol' Leo now that he's single. Right? Who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows Leo and wants to introduce me? Anyone?

Are you a Leo fan? Who are your celebrity crushes?

Meet the girls I was friends with in high school. Class of 2006. Five years ago. (I'm actually still somewhat in touch with most of them -- thanks to Facebook.)

Since we graduated, these girls have been up to a lot. One has a kid, one has two kids, two are married, one's divorced (but in a serious relationship), two others are in relationships, one gets married this Saturday (yay!) and then there's me. Single.

Thank God. (For now.) I can't even imagine how different my life would be right now if I had married one of the guys from my past. And I mean different-in-a-bad-way. I like my life. (For now.)

Emo alert: I've thought that maybe I'll never get married. But not because I don't think I'll find someone that wants to marry me. I wonder if I'll find someone that I want to marry. I'm really picky. And I don't really like people. Remember?

My friend Lindsay thinks I'll have a whirlwind romance where I meet someone and we're married in 6 weeks. 6 weeks? How long does Bachelor film? Maybe it should be more like 6 months. I could see that.

And  you better believe I'll be trying to catch that bouquet this weekend. Why not start that 6 months now?
