Big Bad

If you're from Oxford, you've been to Oxford, or you've read about Oxford -- I'm sure you've heard of John Currence and the City Grocery Group.

Four of the best restaurants in Oxford: City Grocery, Boure´, Big Bad Breakfast, and Snackbar are all backed by chef John Currence.

This month, City Grocery has been closed for renovations, so the team came up with the brilliant idea of having "pop up" restaurants. During the month of January, 4 chefs invaded CGG's catering kitchen and set up shop to make some of the best food I've ever tasted.

Unfortunately, I missed Eli Kirshtein and his Israeli Street Food, but I've been every week since.

Americana: Sister and I split a patty melt topped with a fried egg, french fries, chicken wings, and my favorite menu item...fried brussels sprouts.

Italian Cooking, Southern Roots: For this one, I got "H&H Spam" which was served with a spicy risotto. I tried my friend's cheddar dog. And we split my favorite...Poutine (french fries topped with neck bone gravy and cheese curd).

This week is Dirty Louisiana Truck Stop Food and I went last night with Miss Rachel of {simple.little.joys}. We picked three menu items to share.

I forgot to snap a pic before I devoured the boudin.

I almost licked the plate when we finished this one.

This was my favorite.

And I'll probably order it again tonight. Because I'm going again tonight. There are too many things on this menu that I need to try.

I've got my eye on Gumbo Z'Herbes, Beggars Purses, and of course...the funnel cake.

Did I make you hungry? What would you order?

Want It Wednesday: Birthday Edition

It's my favorite edition of Want it Wednesday.

My 25th birthday is in 9 days and you don't know what to get me!

I'd love to have this Billy Reid messenger bag

but I'd rather have this one from Etsy.

I'd like these Frye Lucy Lace Up Boots

but I'd much rather have these from Forever 21.

I've been wanting this media console from Urban Outfitters

but I think my record player will look just fine on this piece from a small store in my hometown

I also want this, this, this, this, and a bouquet of tulips.

Business Stylish?

I was recently chosen for a community Leadership program.

The Leadership Lafayette program is a series of training sessions and activities, designed for emerging community leaders. It is designed to assure the continuity of leadership in Lafayette-Oxford-University community and assist already established community leaders, who seek more effective ways to contribute to the community.

Over the next seven months, we'll be meeting with community and business leaders... which means I need some business clothes. At my current job, I usually wear jeans. Granted, they're cute jeans that are paired with cute shirts and shoes and earrings. But jeans nonetheless.

So. For our February meeting...I was thinking I'd show up in this.

Pleated Peter Pan Collared Shirt...$17.80
Peplum Pencil Skirt...$12.80
3/4 Sleeve Blazer...$19.50

What do you think? Is it businessy enough? And more it stylish enough? I definitely know it's cheap enough.

Forever 21 is the best.

The Bachelor: Episode 3

And I'm already getting lazy...

I didn't watch the episode Monday night and I didn't watch it Tuesday morning. I didn't watch it until last night, and I've already given up on the use of screen captures.

Thankfully I have a pack of sticky notes and a pencil with no eraser.

We open with, of course, Sean working out. Even though it's totally the same footage as last week. Sean says he's digging a lot of the women right now. But he's ready to decide who he wants to "dig" for the rest of his life.

For the first one on one, the date card goes to "Leeeeesssssssley M". Leslie H is not happy. And Lesley M doesn't seem too happy that they're going to the Guinness World Records. She said going to Guinness wasn't what she was expecting. Translation: I thought we'd be doing something much more extravagant than seeing a wax figure of the world's smallest woman. But ah...they're going to break a world record.

Lesley has perfect legs. And even though that was an awkward 3+ minute long kiss, she's still my favorite. She just seems real. Sean agrees with me, so she gets a rose.

Group date with Kacie, Robyn, Leslie H, Kristy, Catherine, Desiree, Taryn, Amanda, Lindsey, Daniella, Jackie, and Tierra.

I find it weird that the "fit model" is the only one who didn't immediately strip down to her bikini. The girls play beach volleyball and the winners get to move onto the night portion of the date.

Those winners are: Kacie, Robyn, Des, Amanda, Jackie, and Lindsey.

Kacie should have been on the losing team, because she ruins her alone time with Sean by making the cardinal Bachelorette mistake -- talking about the other girls. Hasn't she been in this before? Stupid. And Sean tells her so. (Actually, he uses the word "crazy".) Lindsey gets the group rose. (I don't like her.)

Before AshLee's one on one, Tierra falls down the stairs.

But then refuses to go to the hospital. Because, either she faked the fall to get attention/time with Sean or leasing consultants don't have good insurance.

Now, AshLee's date. Didn't anyone tell her they were going to an amusement park? A tiny, white, lace dress doesn't seem like the perfect ensemble. But, she looks great. The girls who come along on the date are too sweet for words. I can't even discuss. They ride roller-coasters and spend time with two best friends who have chronic illnesses.

Then, Eli Young Band...gross. Not gross? AshLee. The spelling of her name is...but she's not. She's sweet. Then we have serious conversation time. Adoption. Foster homes. Abuse. Sean is crying. (Ugh so am I.) [Can I please just be with him instead? I only have to beat out the remaining 16 girls, every other girl in the Bachelor franchise, and all 270,000 of his Twitter followers. I can handle that. Right?] AshLee gets a rose. And she's now rivaling Lesley as my favorite. Oh, and Desiree. I forgot I love her, too.

Cocktail Party

Sean brings in Sara's dog. Precious. Tierra is super fake. Of course. Desiree's dress is super cute and simple. Tierra is a bitch. Kristy's top knot is perfection. Leslie H's dress is cute (for the first time). Desiree cries. Jackie is beautiful. Is Kacie at a cocktail party or a track meet? And is Selma going salsa dancing in the 1950s?

Before the rose ceremony (but after they're already lined up for the rose ceremony for dramatic effect), Sean sends Kacie home. I saw that coming. I'm pretty sure she just came back because she still doesn't understand why she wasn't the Bachelorette after Ben's season.

Kristy & Taryn are left without roses.

Who's your favorite? Who's your favorite to hate? And who do you think Sean will keep around next week?

Please, no spoilers.

Facts of Faye

Because talking about myself is my favorite thing to do.

First, the most obvious fact.. I won't be posting a Bachelor recap today. Because I haven't watched it yet. I watched the Australian Open instead. My boy David (dah-veed not day-vid) Ferrer came back from 2 sets down to win his quarter final match against Nicolas Almagro.

Obvious fact #2.. I'm hardcore obsessed with tennis.

Not so obvious fact.. I've never actually played tennis.

A fun fact.. I wore heels to work today and it made me feel extra sassy. (Even if they are heeled lace up boots.)

A funny fact.. I woke up this morning when I rolled off my bed.

A serious fact.. I miss my dad a lot, especially around my birthday. I wonder what he'd get me to celebrate my 25th?
(in 17 days!)

An eye opening fact.. I just started wearing contacts/glasses about two months ago. I never realized that this is what the world is supposed to look like.

Some pop culture facts:

90s music & 80s movies will always be my favorite.

I just recently got into Sex and the City. Three seasons in and it's obvious who I am. Post to come. (Any guesses?)

I've only seen 1 of the 9 Oscar nominees for Best Picture. And I think it should win.

Share some facts about yourself. Link up.

Monday Madness

Today has been so hectic. I woke up at 9:00, moved from my bed to the couch, and have been hanging out with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha ever since.

Well, not entirely.

My house is spotless, laundry is clean and put away, dinner is marinating. I have a huge day at work tomorrow and everything is prepared. I'm about to paint my nails and give my dog a bath. Not in that order, of course.

I've never been more productive on a day off. Cheers to me!

How's your Monday?

I bet it will get better after you enter my bff Rachel's Blogiversary giveaway!

I Confess...

I confess... that I was 30 minutes late for work this morning because I stayed up "too late" last night. I went to bed at 11.

I confess... that after Laquon Treadwell's college announcement yesterday, I didn't stop smiling for an hour. The #1 wide receiver recruit in the entire nation signed with Ole Miss. Hotty freaking Toddy.

I confess... that I'm on track to completing all of my January goals but I loathe one of them and can't wait for January to end so it will end too.

I confess... that I'm looking forward to tonight because I'm staying in and watching season 2 of Sex and the City. With wine.

What do you have to confess? Click the picture to link up!

Chili Weather

Even though potato soup is my specialty soup, I'd like to share my chili recipe because, well, it's awesome.

I used to make chili with a packet or a kit or chili flavored rotel and then one day, I just decided to make it myself. I looked up numerous chili recipes and compared spices and ingredients until I came up with what I thought would work best.

2 lbs ground chuck
white onion (chopped, just a handful)
2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
1 28oz can whole, peeled tomatoes

1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
1 Tbsp cumin
2 Tbsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

2 14oz cans beans (kidneys, pintos, both, whatever)
1 can light beer

shredded cheddar cheese
diced red(purple) onion
sour cream
fritos or crackers

Brown beef in large pot, with onions.
Add in garlic once beef is mostly browned.
If using lean beef, it is not necessary to drain. However, I still drain some of the fat.
Squish in all of the tomatoes (except the one that you decide to eat).
Only pour in half of the juice, but don't discard the other half.
Add in spices.
Stir nicely, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
Decide you want to add more cumin, chili powder, and probably cayenne pepper. (Just sprinkle until you're satisfied.)
Rinse beans and add them to the pot.
[Your chili should be a little dry at this point.]
Add in 4-6oz of light beer. You can add in more tomato sauce, too, if you'd like.
Drink the rest of the can of beer while that simmers for another 20 minutes.
Stir and taste. Adjust any ingredients to your liking.
Pour over fritos (or under crackers*) and top with shredded cheese, diced onions, and a dollop of sour cream.

*If you plan to pair with crackers (as opposed to fritos), you might need to add more salt.

Floral & Flannel

After re-watching the best 90s show (other than Daria), I've been in a total 90s mood.

Even more so than usual. I've worn lace up boots with dresses, parted my hair down the middle, and have been on the hunt for some yin yang jewelry.

But the most productive thing I did was make an amazing 90s playlist on Spotify, entitled Floral & Flannel. Because, floral & flannel was the best combination in 90s fashion and I want to bring it back.

Here's a small sample. Enjoy.

The Bachelor: Episode 2

Dagger Eyes

First of all -- as much as I want to bash these women for getting drunk and acting a fool...I kinda just relate to them.

When I was out with Chris, I was downing Miller Lites and throwing back J├Ąger shots. I dragged him to the dance floor for a Britney song and I ended the night being told it would be $14 extra if I puked in the cab.

So...I can't hate on them for that.

However, I can hate on them for their outfit choices and overall bad personalities. And for the fact that they get to date Sean and I don't.

The opening scene of every episode of Brad's second season showed him meeting with his therapist.
I much prefer watching Sean work out and shower.

One on One with Sarah

Sarah gets the first one on one date...and after 25 seasons of this show, the girls are still "surprised" that Sean picks her up in a helicopter. I'm not surprised about the helicopter or the fact that Sarah told us that she only has one arm 329038920 times. If you don't want something to set you apart, don't keep talking about it. But, I'll let it slide because she's cute.

Extreme date #1: Free falling off a 300ft skyscraper. Romantic.

The free fall was followed by wine on cushions, more talk of the arm, a rose, and a kiss.

Group Date with Kristy, Amanda, Brooke, Lesley M, Daniella, Catherine, Robyn, Katie, Selma, Diana, Taryn, Kacie, & Tierra

The girls all pose with Sean for a romance novel cover shoot. I think I was more squeamish watching this scene than Tierra.

Lesley is probably my favorite on this date. She's just the right kind of cute and awkward. Diana and Catherine both seem sweet and quiet. Taryn and Tierra can most likely be found below the Vicky Mendoza diagonal on the hot crazy scale. Kristy probably, too. Katie took herself out of the competition because she was uncomfortable. Kacie got the rose.

One on One with Desiree

A Punk'd date. How awful. Also, I don't think Des fell for it at all.

After that disaster, they go to Sean's house for dinner. They're cute together and seem comfortable. Even in a hot tub talking about marriage on a first's not awkward at all. Which is actually really awkward. She may be my favorite now. Seems to be Sean's, too, as she got a rose and a kiss. (Oh, wait, lots of girls are getting those.)

Cocktail Party

Is Lindsay drunk again or does she always slur her words and giggle so much? Kacie's hair is not on point. I'm not a fan of Sarah's dress. Or Leslie H's.  Amanda is shooting daggers from her eyes constantly.

Pretty sure we saw Daniella's undies. Robyn brings up the race conversation and Sean gives the best and most cliche answer. Selma teaches Sean how to say something in Arabic. All the girls say Amanda is different around Sean than she is around the girls. There's always one or two or twenty five of those girls every season...but. Don't you act different around a guy you like than you do around girls you don't know or even girls that are your closest friends? Come on. It happens.

Rose Ceremony

Sarah, Kacie, and Desiree already have roses and there are 13 more to be handed out.

I love the anxious/sad/angry faces of girls waiting on their names to be called. Tierra's is the best(worst). But...her name is called, along with AshLee, Lindsey, Robyn, Jackie, Lesley M, Selma, Catherine, Kristy, Leslie H, Taryn, Daniella, and Amanda.

So, bye bye to Brooke and Diana. And of course, Katie.

Who's your favorite? Who's your favorite to hate? And who do you think Sean will keep around next week?

Please, no spoilers.

The Olden Globes

Last night, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards.

I won't go into the fashion. I won't bore you with how great and/or awful I think everyone looked. I won't bother to tell you that I thought Claire Danes was the night's obvious winner and Sienna Miller was the even more obvious loser.

I'm not even going to focus on the wins. Even that I think Ben Affleck and Argo were so deserving of their awards and speaking of Ben Affleck and awards, he should be awarded Sexiest Man Alive every year until the end of time.

I won't rave about Lena Dunham's wins or complain about her awkward painful shoe waddle.

I'm here to talk about something much more than that.

Tommy Lee Jones, Bill Clinton, and Bill Murray all look to be about 100 years old. When did that happen? Why is everyone getting so OLD? (Including me.)

I turn 25 in 25 days and the panic is setting in, obviously.

Birthday Countdown

I used to make a big deal out of my birthday. I'd begin the countdown a month out and plan a huge bash with all my friends. I did this every year until last year...because I figured 24 was a boring birthday. But you know what's not a boring birthday?

Halfway to fifty. A quarter of a century.
I'll be there in 30 days.

Now, I'm not sure what my plans for the big day will be, but I hope to be surrounded by friends and cake and booze. And maybe some presents.

I also know that I want to compile a "25 in 25" list of 25 things to do while I'm 25!

(This is where you come in.)

What are some things you've experienced or wish you had experienced that I should try to do in the next year? Anything from skydiving to seeing a broadway play to getting a facial.

I'm ready to have an adventurous and fulfilling year and I need a checklist to guide me!

The Bachelor: Week 1

50 Shades of Sean

Last night, I watched intently as the SEC's Alabama Crimson Tide devoured the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

But don't worry, this morning, I caught up on the first episode of The Bachelor 374 starring Emily's leftovers, Sean. I don't normally eat leftovers, but I'd have seconds of that dish.

Just the "this season on.." promo made me regret my choice to watch another season of this show. But, even though I much prefer the Bachelorette to the Bachelor*, I'm doing this.

*25 shirtless meatheads > 25 catty bitches.

Okay, so here we go. Cue recap of last season. I'm actually sad for Sean. Not because Emily broke his heart, but because I think he's a genuinely great guy and ABC is gonna throw a bunch of crazies his way for rating purposes. And as I say at the beginning of every season -- why didn't I apply?

see the real contestants' cheat sheets here
and please don't be jealous of my Photoshop Microsoft Paint skills

Sean & Arie have a bromantical conversation that includes how to break up with a girl and the best way to kiss. It reminds me how cute Sean is and how much I hated Arie.

As always, we get a glimpse into some of the girls' lives. There's a bridal stylist who probably cries into the wedding gowns at the end of the day, the typical single mom, and this year we have someone who was adopted. And the models. You can't forget the models.

And then the limos arrive...along with the awws and the attitudes.

The girls are a lot prettier than their promo shots. Especially Jackie. But they're just as awkward as I expected. Especially Robyn.

Sean changed the rules and gave Tierra an actual first impression rose minutes after she stepped out of the limo. Surprisingly, the other girls weren't thrilled.

And, of course, the 26th Bachelorette. Kacie B. None of the girls think it's When they get sent home and want to meet Bachelor X next season, they'll be thinking differently. Once a Bachelorette, always a Bachelorette. Again, why didn't I sign up?

Desiree gets another first impression rose. Or does that make it a second impression rose?

And as AshLee gets the third impression rose, the girls freak. But the roses keep coming. To Selma, to Robyn, Katie, Catherine, and Jackie.

Lindsay is drunk and in a wedding gown. And in typical Bachelor fashion, she isn't even the drunkest. Ashley P. is...and is working a 50 Shades of Grey theme. She makes me glad that I never got into those books. We also have a cryer. No surprise there.

More conversations and another rose to Sarah. And apparently 3 other girls that I've missed. Brooke, Diana, and Leslie.

Just as I thought Sean would be sporadically handing out roses until they were gone, Chris Harrison clink clinks his glass and announces that it's time for the Rose Ceremony.

Sean gives roses to Amanda, Lesley M, Kacie, Kristy, Daniella, Taryn, and Lindsay.

Ashley H, Ashley P, Kelly, Keriann, Lauren, and Paige were sent packin'.

Who's your favorite? Who's your favorite to hate? And who do you think Sean will keep around next week?

Please, no spoilers.
