BirchBox Review - January

I have used the same beauty products since I was about 12 years old.

Dove bar soap, CoverGirl blush, and Maybelline mascara. Oh, and Dove 2-in-1 Shampoo/Conditioner.

So this year, I decided to branch out and try new things. To help myself with this, I signed up for BirchBox. Everyone and their mother knows what BirchBox is, so I won't waste your time explaining it.

My January box included these 5 goodies.

I love this stuff. Not only is it all-natural…it smells like blueberries and makes my lashes look extra long. I don't know if I will splurge and buy a full-size tube for $18, but I will enjoy using it until I run out of my sample.

I don't use any hair products. Not even hairspray. I barely dry my hair and only straighten or curl it once in a blue moon. I have been using this stuff and I love the way it smells, but I really don't even know what it does, so I don't know if I like it.

This stuff is amazing. Not only does it smooth my face, but I have noticed that my pesky sun spot on my cheek is about 3 shades lighter after only using this for a month. Definitely spending $35 on the full-size version of this.

This gold glitter nail polish was perfect for sparkling up my Valentine nails. I painted my nails gold and then put a coat of this glittery polish over both of my ring fingers. Unfortunately, I did not read the description in that the polish "morphs from a gold glitter into a sparkly berry hue in the sun". Once I stepped into the sun and saw how haphazardly I had applied the polish, I was a little embarrassed. It's a fun little polish to have, but I wouldn't spend money on the full-size.

I actually haven't even used these yet. But they seem like a cool idea?

My February box arrived yesterday. I can't wait to try these products!

February

Since February is halfway over, I think it's time to set some goals for the month. First, let me tell you how I did with my January goals. I did not finish two books. I did finally read Gone Girl, though. And I was too drained to read anything else. I was hoping my roommate would have a Nicholas Sparks book lying around (it was definitely needed after such a heavy read), but I couldn't find one. My office isn't completely decorated, but I got a new desk! So we'll call that a win. I did work on drinking more water, but not as much as I'd like. So, fail. None of my household projects were completed, except that we finally took down the Christmas decorations. Maybe a half win there? I cleaned out my dresser, but never got to my closet. I did put about 10 items in my "donate" box, though. Another half win. So far I'm 2/5 on my goals for the year.

However, my overall goals are coming along. Be healthy. Be organized. Be happy.

February goals.

1. Put away old cards/keepsakes

2. Rearrange bedroom furniture

3. Read a book

4. Set up budget

5. Schedule workout routine

I have a ton of cards and concert tickets and whatnots in my planner. They seriously make the thing twice as heavy. It's time to put them away. (But not throw them away, of course.)

I've been planning to trade beds with the guest room for a while. I'll get it done this month and maybe do a little extra rearranging while I'm at it.

I've only got 11 days to pick one out and read it. Any suggestions?

I used to keep a monthly budget in Excel. I stopped at the end of last year and haven't picked it up again this year. 90% of my bills are auto drafted from my account at different times during the month. I forgot how easy it is to forget about those without having them accounted for in advance.

My workout class that I joined in August was canceled in January. I've been searching for another to join so that I can have a regular workout schedule.

I'm getting a late start on these, so I've got to get a move on. Any suggestions for small goals I can set in the coming months that will help me to be more healthy, organized, and happy?

Oh Yeah, The Bachelor.

Remember when I used to write about the Bachelor? Let's do that again.

I finally caught up on the first 37 episodes of the season (that's what it felt like, anyway) and boy have my feelings changed since Day 1.

First of all, Juan Pablo. I was so thrilled when he was chosen to be the Bachelor. I almost sent in an application, but I decided my bikini bod wasn't quite ready to be on national television.

Now, no. Is it just me or is he kind of a dick? Maybe it's the language barrier (it's not) but I feel like he talks down to people. And is kind of smug. And overall, he just kinda sucks.

The girls.

After episode 1, my favorites were Andi, Renee, Nikki, and Kat.

Andi

Now, my favorite is Clare. Don't freak out. Let me explain. My favorite for Juan Pablo is Clare. It's kinda like how my favorite for Ben was Courtney cause they were both a leeeetle (lot) crazy. Andi is still my actual favorite. And I love Renee. Kat got old quick and Nikki was a bit of a disappointment.

The other girls:

Chelsie - I could take her or leave her. She's a bit too giggly for me.
Sharleen - It bothers me when I read negative comments about Sharleen. I think she's doing this right. All the other girls, on day 1, are all like "I can't wait to fall in love with Juan Pablo. I hope he likes me!" Sharleen is realistic in that she thinks, "I hope I fall in love with Juan Pablo. I hope I like him." I mean, technically the person who ends up with the Bachelor is the "winner"…but what if you don't want the prize? Love, even on a TV show, is a two way street. However, she does look like she kisses weird. But girl rocks those backless dresses every single week.

Big events:

Okay, just one. The whole Clare in the ocean thing. Either Juan Pablo freaked out and realized they made a mistake because A) he had sex with Clare in the ocean B) Clare gave him a blowsie on the beach or C) he knew that even if it was just an innocent swim, the producers would make it look like it was A and/or B.

Lastly, this show reminds me of the classic movie 2-Gether. We've all seen it, right? It's about how to put together a boy band. You have to have all the right pieces. You have to have the Hearthrob, the Shy One, the Cute One, the Older Brother, and my favorite, the Bad Boy. Every season of this show, you have the One Who's Not Really Into It, the Girl Who Falls Immediately, the Girl Who's Crazy Jealous, the Girl Who Acts Different In The House, and the girl who has the most drama with the Girl Who Acts Different In The House. Props to the casting department for always finding the girls to assume these roles.
